Dress A Girl, Empower A Woman - The Pillowcase Project

Hey precious ladies! Hope your day has been fabulous as usual. What I want to share with you today is about an organization that I recently came across whose goals and mission are near and dear to my heart. For starters their slogan is "Dress A Girl, Empower A Woman". With that slogan they had me at hello, lol. 

The name of the organization is "The Pillowcase Project". What they do is collect pillowcases and sew them into a dress for little orphan girls in Kenya. When hand-delivering these dresses they also teach the women there how to sew and sell a dress as well. 

Not sure if I've mentioned this before, but my background is Ugandan, a neighbouring country to Kenya. Although I never lived there I've been there a number of times and still have the majority of my family there. An organization with a heart for east Africa therefore also touches me on a personal level. 

This organization was only recently founded in April of this year, but compassionate hearts have spread the word and I learned about it from Instagram. (The power of social media). The little girls receiving new dresses (regardless what they're made from) are made to feel so pretty and special. The impact of a beautiful dress speaks volumes to girls at any age in every culture. We all want to feel beautiful regardless of the occasion. And as a pillowcase dress clearly shows, its not in the brand, design or cost, it's simply how it makes you feel, to feel special. That's something we all deserve because that's something we all are. 

You are special in your own right. God made you fearfully and wonderfully (Ps 139:14 paraphrased). We don't always feel like it, but it doesn't make it any less true. Sometimes all it takes is for someone to point it out you.
